Penn State Fayette to host Community Health Fair

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. — Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus will host a Community Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the Community Center on campus.

The first annual event, organized by Health Services and the nursing program at Penn State Fayette, will connect students and community members with local organizations to provide free health education, resources and testing, such as bone density and body mass index (BMI) testing.

Participating organizations will include Highlands Hospital, United Way of South Fayette, Rendu Services, Chestnut Ridge Counseling Services, Connellsville Area Christian Community Ministries, Wesley Health Center, Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA, and the Penn State Fayette Nursing and Physical Therapist Assistant programs, among others.

According to research from Allegheny Health Network, Fayette County has a higher incidence of chronic illness and poor health behaviors, such as smoking and physical inactivity, when compared to the state of Pennsylvania. The Community Health Fair aims to bring awareness to free and affordable services in the area, especially for low-income and underinsured residents.

“The goal of the Community Health Fair is to provide our campus and our community with access to resources and education to promote a healthier life,” said Jennifer Anto, campus nurse for Penn State Fayette.

The event is free and open to the public.
