J&J diversity chief to speak at Smeal's Executive Insights leadership series

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Wanda Bryant Hope, the chief diversity and inclusion officer for Johnson & Johnson, will share her viewpoints on business and leadership with the Penn State Smeal College of Business on Friday, Oct. 20. Her visit is part of Smeal’s Executive Insights series.

Hope will take part in a moderated discussion with Charles H. Whiteman, John and Becky Surma Dean of Smeal, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. in the Struthers Auditorium, Room 110 of the Business Building. The event is free and open to the public, but online registration is required at www.smeal.psu.edu/insights.

Hope’s visit will coincide with Impact Smeal Day. Hosted by the Smeal Alumni Society Board, Impact Smeal Day provides alumni with the opportunity to return to campus and reconnect with the college through a number of activities such as interacting with current students, networking with other alumni, and hearing college updates.

Executive Insights will be streamed on Facebook Live on Smeal’s Facebook page.

Hope’s visit is the third and final Executive Insights session of the semester. Jes Staley, group chief executive officer of Barclays, and Brian T. Olsavsky, chief financial officer and senior vice president at Amazon, visited the college in September.

Hope has held a variety of leadership positions at Johnson & Johnson, including vice president of sales and marketing, development and operations, and global performance and development. In her current role, she is responsible for globally advancing the company’s diversity and inclusion outcomes, strengthening diversity and inclusion capabilities, improving reputation, and driving innovation and growth for future success.

Hope holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Penn State Smeal.

Executive Insights is designed to complement the Smeal educational experience by bringing high-profile business leaders to the college to connect with students, faculty, staff and administrators. Past guests include leaders from organizations such as Amazon, Archer Daniels Midland, Barclays, BASF, Boeing, Credit Suisse, Dell, Deloitte, Dick’s Sporting Goods, EY, GE, Johnson & Johnson, Kohl’s, KPMG, Macy’s, National Retail Federation, Nestlé, Oracle, Procter & Gamble, PwC, Samsung, Siemens, Verizon, Tumi Holdings, Inc., and Urban Outfitters.
