UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Centre Stage will present "Sweet Charity," directed by Erin Farrell Speer and choreographed by musical theatre alumna Alison Morooney, Oct. 3-8 in the Playhouse Theatre. The original Tony Award-winning musical was conceived, staged and choreographed for Broadway by Bob Fosse.

Meet Charity Hope Valentine, the optimistic dance-hall hostess who sings, dances and pours her heart out to one undeserving man after another in her pursuit of finding true love. Emboldened by her girlfriends at the Fan-Dango Ballroom, she and the other hard-working women declare their intent to obtain the better lives that they deserve.

Directing "Sweet Charity" is a privilege, according to Erin Farrell Speer. “I have been continually stunned by the beauty of 'Sweet Charity'’s contagious joy. And JOY is what Charity would say we need most right now: to remember that the experiences that form us make us more alike than different. We need to laugh together, to cry together, to believe in and encourage one another, and to be generous with what we have, no matter how little that might be.”
