Lee named Big Ten player of the week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- For the third straight week, a Penn State women's volleyball player has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week, and this week the honor was given the senior outside hitter, Simone Lee, as announced by the league office.

Lee was named the Penn State Classic Most Valuable Player after leading the Nittany Lions, who stayed at No. 2 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, to a 3-0 weekend with wins over Yale, Wake Forest and Ohio.

Against Yale, Lee put down a team-best 10 kills on a clip of .381, with four blocks, one ace, and three digs.

In the win over Wake Forest, Lee again led the team offensively. She put down another 10 kills, this time on an impressive .818 clip. She also dished out a career-best five aces and added two blocks and three digs.

In the final match of the tournament, Lee put down 12 kills with a .500 hitting percentage. She neared a double-double as she scooped up nine digs. She also added two blocks, including one solo.

Lee is the third straight Nittany Lion to earn the Big Ten Player of the Week honor. Haleigh Washington was the first honoree (Sept. 4), and Ali Frantti followed with her first career honor on Sept. 11.

This is Lee's second career honor. Her first came after a career performance last season when Penn State upset then-ranked No. 1 Minnesota in five sets.
