— Cory Carter, a 2008 graduate of the College of Education, was named assistant principal at Rick Schneider Middle School in Houston. He received his degree in secondary social studies education with minors in education policy studies and history.

—Dawn Bryant Crim, a 1994 alumnus of the counselor education graduate program, has been named assistant state superintendent for student and school success at the Department of Public Instruction for the state of Wisconsin.

— Jean Hitchins, who received her degree in special education in 1977, was one of seven recipients of the "Virginia Lottery Super Teacher" award. Hitchins is a teacher at Fishburn Park Elementary School in Roanoke, Virginia, where she teaches a regional program for students who have multiple disabilities. She also is a former Teacher of the Year recipient for the city of Roanoke.

— Steven Lin, a 2005 graduate in elementary education, has been named principal at Check Elementary School, part of the Floyd County Public School District in Virginia.

— Annie Harris-Meachem, a 1976 graduate of the rehabilitation education bachelor's program and a 1985 graduate of the counselor education master's program, has been recognized by the Women's Media Center as an expert in disability and social justice.
