Hosseini to travel to Kazakhstan as Fulbright Specialist

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Hengameh Hosseini, assistant professor of health care administration in the Penn State Harrisburg School of Public Affairs, has been named a Fulbright Specialist. She will travel to Semey, Kazakhstan during the 2017-18 academic year.

The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning and related subjects at academic institutions abroad for a period of two to six weeks.

Hosseini will conduct research in health service administration at Semey State Medical University, as well as assess the host institution's Master’s in Public Health program and give recommendations on its improvement; and advise on organizational, legal and financial integration of the Medical Hospital into the Semey State Medical University system. The hospital should become an integral part of the Semey State Medical University, having a dual role as an educational entity and a hospital.

Hosseini has a doctorate in health promotion, a graduate degree with concentrations in finance and accounting, and an undergraduate degree in management. She is also interested in globalization and the global aspects of healthcare.  

She has conducted research applying economics and business theories, ethical theory and her knowledge of global issues to healthcare. Hosseini serves on the editorial board of the “International Journal of Hospital Research,” and was an advisory director and reviewer for the Franklin Publishing Company.  She has been awarded several research grants, and has reviewed numerous papers for academic journals and conferences.

Fulbright Specialists are a diverse group of highly experienced, well-established faculty members and professionals who represent a variety of academic disciplines and professions. To be eligible to serve as a Fulbright Specialist, candidates must have significant experience in their respective professional field and be a U.S. citizen at the time of application.
