CARLISLE, Pa. — Christopher Harris, a third-year student at Penn State’s Dickinson Law, Carlisle, received the Louise Hoffmeyer-Overmiller Scholarship — a $6,000 annual award created by attorney William F. Hoffmeyer of Hoffmeyer and Semmelman, York County, Pennsylvania.

The scholarship was founded in honor and in memory of Hoffmeyer’s daughter Louie, whose vigor, good humor and inner drive were on display daily as the law firm’s office manager, and who also was vice-president and title officer for the York Abstracting Company. Harris is the first recipient of this scholarship.

“It is people like Mr. Hoffmeyer that enable students like me to attend law school,” said Harris. “This scholarship means a lot to me.”

The scholarship is presented to a third-year Dickinson Law student with a grade point average of 3.3 or above, financial need and a “fire in the belly” for the law.

Harris received his Bachelor of Arts in history from Southern Arkansas University, where he was president of the Student Government Association and the Honors College Association. Now a 2018 juris doctorate candidate, Harris was the top prosecuting advocate for Dickinson Law’s 1L mock trial team and currently serves as secretary of the Women’s Law Caucus, treasurer of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International, and the student coordinator for both the Bethesda Mission Legal Intake Clinic and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region. In 2016, he was an IOLTA Fellow for MidPenn Legal Services, where he researched and wrote memoranda on a variety of civil litigation matters. He also worked with the Medical-Legal Partnership Clinic with Lancaster General Hospital, attending rounds with the doctors to identify legal obstacles and research legal questions.

Harris currently serves as a Law Lion Ambassador for Dickinson Law. He is spending his fall semester abroad at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands learning more about the international legal market and pursuing his Master of Laws.
