RIG grants available for doctoral students

Doctoral students who have successfully defended their dissertation proposal are eligible to submit an application for a Dissertation Research Initiation Grant. The deadline for proposals is Sept. 15. For more information, visit https://ed.psu.edu/graduate/funding.

Students collecting toiletries, towels, blankets for Harvey disaster relief

Penn State students are collaborating on a disaster relief effort to aid those in Texas affected by Hurricane Harvey. Toiletries, towels and blankets are being accepted in the lobby area of the Paul Robeson Cultural Center, located in the HUB-Robeson Center at University Park.

Items will be collected for two weeks, and include:

  • pillows
  • blankets
  • towels
  • toiletries (soap, shampoo, baby wipes, diapers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths, feminine products, combs, picks and brushes)

The drive is sponsored by: UNICEF Penn State, the Penn State chapter of NAACP, the Asian Pacific American Caucus, Eco Action, and the Black Graduate Student Association.

Two service trips to Houston in the fall and in the spring are currently being organized.

Global Programs announces Global 'All In' scholarship program

The Office of Global Programs, in conjunction with the Office of Educational Equity and the Office of the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses, has announced the creation of the Global “All In” scholarship program.

The scholarship recognizes and supports outstanding students who may not traditionally include an education abroad program in their undergraduate career. The scholarship, in the amount of $2,500, can be applied to any Penn State-approved education abroad program over a student’s academic career at Penn State.

Information sessions scheduled for NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

The University Fellowships Office, in partnership with the College of Engineering and in collaboration with the Graduate School's Office of Graduate Fellowships and Awards Administration, will hold a suite of informational events on the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) throughout the fall 2017 semester. Penn State undergraduates who are considering applying to graduate school, as well as first- and second-year graduate students in STEM fields, are encouraged to attend upcoming programming.

Residence Life seeking students interested in becoming resident assistants

Penn State Residence Life is currently seeking students who are interested in serving as resident assistants.

Resident assistants work in a residence hall or apartment setting under the direct supervision of a professional live-in staff member (coordinator/assistant coordinator). The role of the RA is to work with other residence hall staff to facilitate an environment within the residence hall community that promotes the educational experience of residential living.

Zagster bike share now available at University Park

Zagster bike share is now available at University Park, offering Penn State students, faculty, staff and visitors a convenient, affordable and healthy way to get around campus.

Café Laura opens for the fall semester

Faculty, staff and students can once again visit Café Laura for lunch between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. during the fall semester. Weekly lunch specials are offered and menus can be viewed online by visiting http://cafelaura.psu.edu/lunch. Café Laura also provides grab-and-go breakfast options and hosts theme dinners on Wednesday and Thursday evenings beginning in October. Reservations for theme dinners can be made at http://cafelaura.psu.edu/. Open enrollment meetings scheduled

The Benefits Open Enrollment Campus Meeting and Webinar schedule is now posted on the Office of Human Resources' web page at the following link: http://openenrollment.psu.edu/in-person-meetings/.

All faculty and staff are encouraged to attend a presentation in-person or via webinar. This will be an opportunity to ask questions regarding all vendor changes.
