UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The College of the Liberal Arts will host a festival for undergraduate students from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6. The festival is open to all Penn State students, including those interested in learning more about the majors and resources in the college. The event will take place on Pattee Mall between Sparks and Burrowes buildings.

The festival will include more than 40 departmental and informational tables staffed by faculty and staff to meet and greet students. Students will have the opportunity to learn about scholarships, undergraduate research, the Paterno Fellows Program and more. The Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council and Liberal Arts Envoys also will be on site to talk to students about getting more involved in the college community.

“We encourage our students to participate in events like these that bring together our liberal arts community,” said Kimberly Smith, administrative operations coordinator for Liberal Arts Undergraduate Studies. “The festival will give our current students, as well as prospective students, an opportunity to learn more about our exciting majors, minors and courses that we offer. Additionally, it will be a great opportunity for the college deans, faculty and staff to engage with our students.”

The event will have 1960s theming to fit in with the college’s undergraduate theme for the year, Moments of Change: Remembering '68. The year 1968, with its rebellions, assassinations, political developments, and cultural innovations, epitomizes an era that many regard as a decade-long emblem of change. Through the 2017-18 academic year, it will serve as a touch-point for all liberal arts undergraduate students, faculty and alumni. The anniversary will be commemorated with a slate of events, including panel discussions, movie nights, lectures, and other special events covering everything from events on our campus in 1968 to the events both nationally and internationally. At the festival, students will have the opportunity to vote on a popular movie from 1968 for a movie night at the State Theatre.

Hot dogs, fries, soft pretzels, popcorn, Berkey Creamery ice cream and a vegan option from Pita Cabana will be available for free. Students also will be able to play games, enter raffles and step into the photo booth. Students are encouraged to share a photo from the event on social media using #LiberalArtsFest in order to win a free T-shirt.

The Liberal Arts Career Enrichment Network will have a tent where students can learn more about study abroad opportunities and internships. Resources will be available to help students prepare for the upcoming Fall Career Days. Employers from Amica Insurance, Altria, Amazon, Vanguard, Teach for America, and Penn State University Police will be on hand for résumé reviews and networking.
