Schreyer Institute to offer free TA 101 workshop for new teaching assistants

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence will present a free workshop titled “TA 101: Survive and Thrive as a Teaching Assistant” from noon to 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, in 315 Rider Building at University Park.

This workshop, facilitated by Chas Brua, Michael Murphy, Moji Shahvali and Wideline Seraphin, is designed for new teaching assistants and will cover such common challenges as:

  • maintaining a balance of authority and approachability;
  • handling grade complaints;
  • communicating in the classroom; and
  • acting as a representative of the course instructor.

This workshop satisfies a requirement for the Instructional Foundations Series for new instructors.
