Give the gift of life at Penn State York community blood drive Aug. 24

YORK, Pa. — Penn State York, Fox 43, and the American Red Cross have joined together to ask area residents to bleed for a good cause. The American Red Cross is in need of blood, and a community drive is set for Thursday, Aug. 24, at Penn State York. The blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Conference Center of the Main Classroom Building and is open to the public.

“Building off of last year’s great collaborative effort between Penn State York, the American Red Cross, and Fox 43, we felt that it was in everyone’s best interest to partner again and coordinate another blood drive for the community,” said Dan Puccio, associate director of student affairs and the campus contact for the community blood drive. “We are proud to offer the second annual community blood drive on our campus. Fox 43 on-air personalities will be visiting throughout the day, and we’re very excited to be able to partner with the American Red Cross and Fox 43 again. We’re hoping to have a great turn out from the community to visit our campus for a good cause and to help save lives so this can become a yearly community blood drive.”

According to the American Red Cross, the need for blood is constant, and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in the local community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every two to three seconds.

In addition to the satisfaction of knowing they have helped someone in need, blood donors will receive a free T-shirt, a $5 gift certificate good at top retailers, a ticket to the York Fair, and other incentives.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood, call the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS or visit the American Red Cross online at redcrossblood.org and enter zip code 17403 under “Find a Blood Drive.” Registration is preferred but walk-ins are welcome.
