Witts named College of Education's student marshal for summer commencement

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Emily Witts has been selected as the College of Education’s student marshal for the summer 2017 commencement ceremony, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Bryce Jordan Center on the Penn State University Park campus. Witts selected Pia Smal to escort her as the college’s faculty marshal. 

Witts, from Scranton, Pennsylvania, will graduate with a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation and human services with a minor in psychology. Lindsay Hayes has served as her academic adviser.

She is a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and served as the sorority's THON weekend chair in 2016. She also served on the THON Rules and Regulations Committee in 2016-17. Her interests include occupational therapy, autism awareness and working with children.

Her work experience includes serving as a student server and then crew leader in Pollock Dining Commons, and a senior shift lead at Rita's Italian Ice. She also was an assistant dance teacher for the Linn McDonald School of Dance in Scranton, where she taught ballet and tap to dance students from ages 3 to 18.

Witts' mother, Hollie Blankenship; grandmother, Susan; and aunt, Karen, plan to attend the ceremony.

She plans to begin applying for graduate schools for occupational therapy.
