UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Forum Speaker Series committee has announced the lineup for the coming year. The 2017-18 speakers include a retired NFL player, a Vietnam War veteran, a student activist, an immigration and education advocate and the Penn State Laureate.
The forum series is modeled after the National Press Club Speaker Series, which includes a presentation by an invited speaker, followed by audience questions. The luncheons are held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the University Park campus.
The speakers include:
Sept. 20: Doug Bradley, a Vietnam War veteran and co-author of "We Gotta Get Out of This Place: The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War," will discuss his book at President's Hall at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center.
Oct. 24: Linda Yaccarino, chairwoman of advertising sales and client partnership at NBCUniversal, will present "Navigating the Future of a Fragmented Industry" at the Ballroom in the Nittany Lion Inn.
Nov. 7: Aija Mayrock, student, activist and bestselling author of "The Survival Guide to Bullying," will present "Building a Global Initiative as a Student" at the Ballroom at the Nittany Lion Inn.
Dec. 8: Seth Miller, executive director of the Innocence Project of Florida, will present "Innocence Lost: Finding Justice and Freedom for the Wrongfully Convicted" at President's Hall at the Penn Stater.
Jan. 25, 2018: Andrew Belser, director of the Arts and Design Research Incubator; professor of movement, voice and acting; and the 2017-18 Penn State Laureate, will present "FaceAge: Empathy Rising Across Generations" at President's Hall at the Penn Stater.
Feb. 20, 2018: John Urschel, mathematician and retired NFL player, will present "Order and Chaos" at the Ballroom in the Nittany Lion Inn.
March 20, 2018: Julissa Arce, immigration and education advocate, co-founder and chairwoman of Ascend Educational Fund and author of "My (Underground) American Dream" will present "The American Dreamer: From Undocumented to Wall Street to Immigration Advocate" at the Ballroom at the Nittany Lion Inn.
April 24, 2018: Charlene Teters, academic dean at the Institute of American Indian Arts, will present "If Not You, Then Who" at the Ballroom in the Nittany Lion Inn.
The Penn State Forum Speaker Series is open to the general public. Tickets for the Penn State Forum are $21 and include a buffet lunch.
