WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A Pennsylvania College of Technology plastics student is one of three nationwide recipients of a scholarship from the Society of Plastics Engineers Thermoforming Division.
Logan A. Tate, of Williamsport, received the Thermoforming Division Memorial Scholarship, worth $2,500. The honor also includes an invitation to the 26th SPI Thermoforming Conference Sept. 11-13 in Orlando, Florida, where he will be recognized at the Thermoforming Awards Dinner.
SPE’s Thermoforming Division consists of plastics professionals who are committed to the advancement of thermoforming technologies through education, application, promotion and research.
Tate is a senior seeking a bachelor’s degree in plastics and polymer engineering technology. He is serving consecutive terms as president of the college’s SPE Student Chapter. A Dean’s List student, Tate is a research assistant for the Plastics Innovation & Resource Center at the college, where he assists with workforce development and training workshops. This summer, he’s worked as a plastics engineering intern in both the extrusion and injection molding departments at B. Braun Medical in Allentown. Throughout his time at the college, Tate has participated in several plastics-industry conferences and events.
“This honor for Logan is quite appropriate,” said Timothy E. Weston, associate professor of plastics and polymer technology and department head. “He is outstanding in and out of the classroom and is a role model for the younger students. He has a tremendous future to look forward to. Like most of our plastics grads, he will be in demand.”
Graduates of Penn College’s plastics program have a nearly 100 percent job-placement rate.
The college is among just a handful of institutions nationwide with plastics degrees that are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.
In addition to the bachelor’s degree in plastics and polymer engineering technology, the college offers an associate degree in plastics and polymer technology.
