HERSHEY, Pa. -- For the seventh consecutive year, Penn State Children’s Hospital has been ranked among the Best Children’s Hospitals in multiple specialties by U.S. News & World Report.

The Children’s Hospital ranked in cancer (#50), cardiology and heart surgery (#39), neonatology (#46) and orthopedics (#46) in the 2017-2018 rankings.

“This well-deserved, continued recognition is an important reminder to families, referring physicians and the region as a whole that the highest level of pediatric specialty care is available right here in central Pennsylvania,” said Dr. Leslie Walker-Harding, chair of pediatrics at Penn State Children’s Hospital.

The U.S. News rankings highlight the top 50 U.S. hospitals in each of ten pediatric specialties: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

“Our nurses, doctors, therapists and the many others in our outstanding healthcare teams work hard together every day to ensure that central Pennsylvania families receive highly-skilled and compassionate care,” said Dr. A. Craig Hillemeier, dean of Penn State College of Medicine, chief executive officer of Penn State Health and Penn State’s senior vice president for health affairs. “To see their efforts recognized at such a high level, year after year, is truly remarkable.”

U.S. News introduced the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of sick children find the best medical care available, especially for complex conditions. The rankings offer families an array of detailed information about each hospital’s performance. Click here to learn more about this year's rankings.

The U.S. News Best Children’s Hospitals rankings rely on clinical data – including survival rates, adequacy of nurse staffing and procedure volumes – and on an annual survey of pediatric specialists.

This year’s rankings will be published in the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals 2018” guidebook and available on newsstands September 12.
