Gallagher, O'Donnell earn all-tournament team honors

FOXBORO, Mass. – Junior classsmates Katie O’Donnell and Maggie Gallagher have been named to the 2017 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship All-Tournament team for their performance in the NCAA semifinals this past weekend.

O’Donnell paced the Lions with four goals while Gallagher turned in her second career hat trick with three scores of her own on Friday night.

O’Donnell finishes the 2017 campaign second on the team with 65 goals, the eighth highest single-season total in program history, as she becomes just the seventh Nittany Lion to record 60-plus goals in a single-season joining current teammate Madison Carter who recorded 70 goals on the year as a sophomore.

O’Donnell also moved into a tie for ninth with Michele DeJulius on the Penn State all-time goals list with 142 now for her career in just 63 games played. The rising senior will have a chance next season to become just the fourth Nittany Lion in program history to hit the 200-goal plateau.

Gallagher collected just her second career hat trick in the national semifinals, but her second in the last four games to conclude her junior campaign fourth on the team with 23 goals while adding 16 assists for 39 points, which also ranks fourth on the team.  

The Nittany Lions finished the season 17-4 overall to tie their second-highest win total in program history and the most since they went 19-1 in 1989. Penn State also broke its program record for most goals and points in a season with 303 and 427, respectively.
