Institute for CyberScience invites researchers to be Associates and Affiliates

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Institute for CyberScience (ICS) invites researchers to participate in the ICS Associates & Affiliates Program, a way for experts whose research involves computation and big-data methods to engage with the institute and with each other.

Researchers participating in this program will be alerted of ICS and external funding opportunities, gain entry to additional advanced computing technologies, and learn about events and training related to high-performance computing, among other opportunities.

Program participants will also enhance the cyberscience research community by hosting seminars, reviewing submissions for ICS funding opportunities, and sharing their expertise with other members of the program.

The program has three levels of engagement: Associate, Affiliate (which is also open to active external collaborators), and Student Affiliate. Researchers can choose the level of engagement that best suits their needs.

“Growing the community of computational and big-data experts at Penn State is one of the core pillars of the ICS mission,” said Jenni Evans, ICS director. “I look forward to starting this new initiative to foster collaboration and share solutions on challenging interdisciplinary problems and also to increase awareness of cyberscience across the Penn State community and beyond.”

As one of the five interdisciplinary research institutes under the Office of the Vice President for Research, ICS is dedicated to supporting cyber-enabled research across the disciplines. ICS builds an active community of researchers using computational methods in a wide range of fields through co-hiring of tenure-track faculty, providing seed funding for ambitious computational research projects, and offering access to high-performance computing resources through its Advanced CyberInfrastructure. With the support of ICS, Penn State researchers harness the power of big data, big simulation, and big computing to solve the world’s problems.
