CORE to host Positive Youth Development Summit Friday, May 19, at Behrend

ERIE, Pa. — The Susan Hirt Hagen Center for Community Outreach, Research and Evaluation (CORE) at Penn State Behrend will host a Positive Youth Development (PYD) Summit Celebration on Friday, May 19.

The summit, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be held in the college’s Reed Union Building, is a follow-up from a fall meeting where high school students brainstormed how they could make a positive impact at their schools. Students share their success stories at the summit and reflect on their experiences.

This summit is free and open to middle and high schools in Erie, as well as education sites and nonprofit organizations. Schools and education sites can RSVP by emailing core@psu.edu.

Nonprofit organizations that would like to set up an information table at the summit can RSVP by emailing Abbe Biebel at aln110@psu.edu.

CORE, an outreach effort of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend, provides and supports school-based events, community-based activities and public training sessions across Erie County; the center’s work in the Union City school district has helped cut truancy and drop-out rates by more than half and has knocked the district’s teen-pregnancy rate to a 10-year low.
