UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Data users from across the Commonwealth are set to gather at Penn State Harrisburg for the Pennsylvania State Data Center’s (PaSDC) 2017 Data User Conference on May 9. The annual conference serves as Pennsylvania’s most comprehensive single-day forum for research and development in demographic data.
This year’s conference, “From Data to Discovery,” will focus on the use of data in community planning and development, data-based decision-making, and tools and techniques relevant to data users.
The keynote address will be provided by Richard P. Vilello Jr., deputy secretary for community affairs and development, Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The plenary address will be delivered by Kristofer "Bert" Bucklen, chief of projections and population statistics, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

Sessions by researchers and state agency personnel will discuss a wide range of topics, such as criminal justice, population growth, and how varying levels of government use geographic information systems (GIS). The conference is also an opportunity for attendees to become familiar with various U.S. Census Bureau programs, including the 2020 Census Redistricting Program. As in previous years, the conference provides an excellent opportunity for data professionals to network and share information on Pennsylvania’s changing population, demographics and economy.
