UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On April 26, three retiring faculty members of Penn State's College of Information Sciences and Technology gave their "last lecture."

"Some days are bad. You’re going to have bad days. That’s all there is to it. But some days are good. What I have found is that the best learning often emerges from adversity and even calamity."

— Michael McNeese, tenured professor of information sciences and technology

"The evolution of my career played out alongside the development of the computer. When I started, we interacted with computers through punch cards. Then I was one of the first three students at the University of Pittsburgh to complete their dissertation with a word processor. Now it’s mobile phones and texting — what would I want to text for? But now we can’t imagine life without it."

— Eileen Trauth, professor of information sciences and technology and women's, gender and sexuality studies

"We have a saying in the military: take care of the troops, and they’ll take care of you. An organization’s most important asset is its people. It’s always about people. Treat people right."

— Stan Aungst, research associate in information sciences and technology
