Symphonic Band to conclude its 2016-17 concert season April 26

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Symphonic Band will conclude its 2016-17 season with a concert at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in Eisenhower Auditorium. The program includes works by American contemporary composers Frank Ticheli and John Mackey, as well as compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Dmitri Shostakovich.

The Symphonic Band is conducted by Dennis Glocke, Penn State director of concert bands. He will be assisted by Audry Thompson, a graduate student in wind conducting. Guest conductor for this performance is faculty member Eric W. Bush.

Ticket prices are $12 for general admission and $4 for students. Tickets purchased in advance for School of Music concerts in Eisenhower Auditorium are eligible for a 40 percent discount. There is no limit on the number of tickets that may be purchased.. Purchases made the the day of the concert are not eligible for the discount. The Symphonic Band is a select band that utilizes the full resources of the large wind/percussion ensemble to perform outstanding works from the concert band repertory. Members of the 80-piece ensemble are selected by audition during the first week of classes each semester. The Symphonic Band presents several concerts each semester in the 2,600-seat Eisenhower Auditorium. Like all Penn State bands, the Symphonic Band is open to all students, regardless of major.
