MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Electrical engineering and electrical engineering technology students from Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Science, Engineering and Technology won two awards in the annual Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) Region 2 Student Activities Conference, hosted by Rowan University April 7-9. Twenty-seven colleges and universities from Pennsylvania, Ohio, southern New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia competed in eleven categories.
Taking first-place honors for Penn State Harrisburg in the physics competition were Joel Nelson, Kyle Staley and Maxwell Winslow. Participants were required to have a basic understanding of mechanics and experimental design. The competition consisted of a design challenge and a conceptual portion.
Second-place honors in the brown bag competition were awarded to Joseph Morrison, Jacob Peiffer and Jacob Rissmiller. Team members were given a bag of components and were required to complete a project using some or all of the components provided. Members relied on their knowledge and ingenuity to complete the challenge.
Other Penn State Harrisburg participants were Baha Bachnak, Alejandro Davila-Ibarra, Aaron Doriani, John Fox, Jonathan Good, Robert Lachman, Cullen Laygo, Nicholas Lebish, Oliver Martin, Ira Matthews, Jay Mehta, Akash Patel, Benjamin Rother, Brandon Wong, and Jason Zhang.
