UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State President Eric Barron today (April 21) led the dedication of the HUB Green Roof Terrace, a gift of the Class of 2014, at the HUB-Robeson Center.

“Class gifts are always a treasured addition to our campus, and the process of realizing the vision for the class gift is always unique,” said Barron.  “This was especially true with this class gift: a living green roof that adds a beautiful and educational outdoor space to the new HUB addition.”

The new terrace provides additional seating as well as more space for organizational programming. The green roof helps advance sustainable architecture and design on campus and provide several key environmental benefits, including reducing the heat-island affect that traditional roofs create; allowing for better management of storm water; and creating a new habitat for plants, birds and insects.

Alumna Danae Blasso, 2014 class gift communications chair, also spoke at the dedication. Blasso said that more than 3,100 members of the class of 2014 contributed to the University in their senior year.

“Here at Penn State, we are taught to impact the world we live in," said Blasso. "The 2014 graduates of Penn State acted on this imperative through their choice of funding the Terrace — a space which provides entertainment, function, and a responsible way of using Earth’s resources."
