UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Advance Vehicle Team (PSU AVT) will host an event to give Penn State students, faculty and staff a chance to see their student-made hybrid-electric Camaro, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 21, at the garage near Research Building B on the University Park campus. The event is open to the public, and attendees will have the opportunity to speak with the lead engineers on the project. Food will be provided at the event.
PSU AVT is a group of business, engineering and communications students working with top sponsors in the automotive industry to compete in Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions. Currently, PSU AVT is in the EocCAR 3 competition, sponsored by General Motors, The U.S. Department of Energy and Argonne National Labs. The goal of EcoCAR 3 is to convert a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro into a hybrid-electric vehicle, while maintaining the car's performance qualities.
The team working on the Camaro is currently competing with 16 universities in North America. At the end of each year, a competition takes place to determine a winner for that year. With the competition starting on May 14 in Milford, Michigan, and ending on May 25 in Washington, D.C., PSU AVT is holding this event to showcase its accomplishments before the team leaves for Milford.
