Student Programming Association announces April events

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Student Programming Association (SPA) has announced its April 2017 programming calendar.

The schedule of events for April is as follows:

April 7 — Caryn Dixon presented by SPA Noontime’s Concert Series

Caryn Dixon, a singer/songwriter best described to have soulful pop vibes with a slight country influence, will perform at noon as part of SPA Noontime’s Concert Series in the HUB‑Robeson Center’s Noontime Lounge (above Hibachi‑San). This event is open to the public. 

April 8 — SPA LateNight presents “The Extravaganza”

At 9 p.m. in the HUB-Robeson Center’s Alumni Hall, SPA’s LateNight committee will present “The Extravaganza.” This event will feature two sessions of ThinkFast, the most awarded interactive trivia experience with the chance to win cash prizes. Students with a valid Penn State University Park Photo ID, will be able to take part in one of two sessions, at 9:30 p.m. or 11:30 p.m. A roaming mentalist, custom apparel creation stations, street sign creation, and a photo booth will also all be on hand. 

April 10 — SPA presents Jean-Michel Cousteau as part of the Spring 2017 Distinguished Speaker Series

Cousteau, best known for dedicating himself and his vast experience as an explorer, environmentalist, educator, and film producer to communicate his love and concern for our water planet, will speak at 8 p.m. in the HUB‑Robeson Center’s Alumni Hall. Tickets for the event are available now to Penn State students and the public. 

April 14 — Dear Friend presented by SPA Noontime’s Concert Series

Dear Friend, a band hailing from Philadelphia, will perform at noon as part of SPA Noontime’s Concert Series in the HUB-­Robeson Center’s Noontime Lounge (above Hibachi-­San). With their sound reflecting the intricate Philly underground music scene, they are self‑described as “punk/rock/indie musicians.” This event is open to the public. 

April 19 — SPA Entertainment presents Pete Davidson & Alex Moffat

“Saturday Night Live” cast members Pete Davidson and Alex Moffat will take the Eisenhower Auditorium stage at 8 p.m. Tickets to see Davidson and Moffat are available to Penn State students with a valid Penn State University Park Photo ID. There is a two-ticket max per ID. On April 12, remaining tickets will be made available to the public.

April 20 — SPA presents Laverne Cox as part of the Spring 2017 Distinguished Speaker Series

Known for her groundbreaking role of Sophia Burset on “Orange is the New Black,” Cox is the first trans woman of color to have a leading role on a mainstream scripted television show. Her lecture will be held at 8 p.m. in Eisenhower Auditorium. Tickets for the event are available to Penn State students. Any remaining tickets will be made available to the public on April 13.

April 21 — Reef’d presented by SPA Noontime’s Concert Series

Reef’d, a band self-­described as “Philly reggae intertwined with rhyme, rock, and soul” will perform at noon as part of SPA Noontime’s Concert Series in the HUB‑Robeson Center’s Noontime Lounge (above Hibachi-San). The public is welcome to come out to hear the band's unique sound. 

April 24-27 — SPA Entertainment presents Relaxation Week

The SPA Special Events Committee is excited to present Relaxation Week, a week dedicated to providing a relaxing and fun experience in lieu of finals week. All activities and items will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day on the first floor of the HUB‑Robeson Center by the staircase. 

April 28 — Student Showcase presented by SPA Noontime’s Concert Series

Each semester, the Student Programming Association’s Noontime Concert Series committee is excited to present the Student Showcase. The Noontime Student Showcase is a show that consists solely of Penn State student acts. While the event will be open to all, Penn State students are highly encouraged to come out to support a wide array of genres and music from their peers. Check out all the bands at noon in the HUB-Robeson Center’s Noontime Lounge (above Hibachi‑San). 

April 28 — Movin’ On 2017 | SPA presents Clean Bandit

The Student Programming Association is excited to present Clean Bandit as part of the 42nd year of Movin’ On, Penn State’s annual music festival. An ongoing collaboration now in its seventh year, the SPA Entertainment Committee is excited to contribute an act that is climbing the Spotify charts to the Movin’ On 2017 lineup. Movin’ On takes place each spring as a senior sendoff for those graduating and “movin’ on” to life post‑graduation. The day of music will take place from 3:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Blue Band IM fields. Designed and curated with Penn State students in mind, Movin’ On is for individuals 18 years of age and older.
