Penn State Advanced Vehicle Team and Oshkosh showcase vehicles April 5

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On April 5, the Penn State Advanced Vehicle Team (PSU AVT) will combine efforts with representatives from the Oshkosh Corporation to showcase their vehicles.

The event will take place in Red Lot A near Leonard Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and food will be provided. Students will also have the opportunity to speak with Oshkosh Corporation about career opportunities in 102 Leonard Building from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Oshkosh Corporation will bring a JLG Lift, Pierce Fire-Truck and a Jerr-Dan Tow Truck. PSU AVT will showcase its 2016 hybrid-electric Chevrolet Camaro and 2013 hybrid-electric Chevrolet Malibu.

While the PSU AVT vehicles are all student-engineered, Oshkosh Corporation vehicles have various uses. The JLG Lift is a boom lift that is widely used in agriculture and industry, and the Pierce Fire-Truck transports firefighters to an incident scene, providing water with which to fight a fire, and carrying other equipment needed by firefighters. A Jerr-Dan Tow Truck tows vehicles with a load angle as low as 7.5 degrees.

Photos of the vehicles are available.

PSU AVT is a group of Penn State business, engineering and communications students working with top sponsors in the automotive industry to compete in Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions. Currently, PSU AVT is in the EocCAR 3 competition, sponsored by General Motors, the U.S. Department of Energy and Argonne National Labs. The goal of EcoCAR 3 is to convert a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro into a hybrid-electric vehicle while maintaining the car's performance qualities. The team competes with 16 different universities across North America, and participating is a great opportunity for any student interested in working in sustainability or the automotive industry.

U.S.-based Oshkosh Corporation is a leading global manufacturer and marketer of access equipment, specialty vehicles and truck bodies for the primary markets of defense, concrete placement, refuse hauling, access equipment and fire and emergency.
