UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Student Association of Environmental Science and Engineering (SAESE) will hold the 20th annual Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology Student Symposium (ECMSS) from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on April 21, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 22, in the Forest Resources Building, University Park.
ECMSS is a two-day, student-run symposium that brings undergraduate students, graduate students, postdocs and faculty members working in environmentally relevant fields across campus to come together. The symposium invites students to present their work in oral and poster presentations and selected outstanding presentations will be rewarded with cash prizes. The events also include a photography and T-shirt design contest, and a career panel discussion. Food and coffee is provided throughout the two-day event.
Three keynote speakers from outside campus are invited this year:
- Margaret Torn from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will present on "Persistence of soil organic matter as an ecosystem property."
- Monroe Weber-Shirk from Cornell University will present "Creating community-scale, people and planet friendly, water treatment technologies."
- Arup SenGupta from Lehigh University will present on "Development and globalization of hybrid ion exchange nanotechnology (HIX-Nano): mitigating fluoride and arsenic crisis in water."
