— The U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA), Fort Bliss, Texas, fellowship program, a partnership with the Lifelong Learning and Adult Education program in the College of Education and run through the World Campus, was highlighted on page 21 of the USASMA magazine at http://militarypolice.epubxp.com/t/15902-military-police. The intent of the fellowship program is to meet the Army's objective of developing agile, adaptive, and innovative leaders who thrive in conditions of uncertainty and chaos. William C. Diehl, assistant professor of education and coordinator of Online Graduate Programs for the college, is the program adviser.

Soo-yong Byun, associate professor of educational theory and policy, has been selected as a 2017 Rising Alumnus by the College of Education and Human Development Alumni Society at the University of Minnesota.

— Luke Darrup, a student in the secondary social studies education program, was featured in a news article in Newsitem.com for an engaged scholarship opportunity in which he participated. Darrup, eight other students and three advisers visited Sweden between March 4 and 11 to compare the levels of classes to their respective American equivalents. The group also experienced the country’s history and culture, of which he detailed the experiences in a blog at http://lukedarrup.livejournal.com.

— David Falk, a junior majoring in mathematics and secondary education with minors in French and Spanish, is the recipient of the Marc David Foundation Award, given by Penn State’s LGBTQA Student Resource Center. Falk is the president and co-founder of Receiving with Thanksgiving, Penn State’s LGBTQ Christian network. He is also the former president of oSTEM, Penn State’s professional network for LGBTQ students in STEM fields, and spoke at the 2017 oSTEM national conference about the intersection between the faith, LGBTQ, and scientific communities.

Erica Frankenberg, associate professor of educational leadership and demography, participated in a Q&A with Keystone Crossroads regarding her new study, which found Pennsylvania students choose charter schools that are more racially homogenous.

— Kelly Mark, a 2016 graduate of the curriculum and instruction doctoral program, has been awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award by the National Association for Professional Development Schools. This is the second consecutive year in which a graduate of the college has won this award.

Dana Mitra, professor of educational theory and policy, spoke with Russ O’Reilly of the Altoona Mirror regarding a Pennsylvania senator’s push for school choice.

— Michael Moore, distinguished professor emeritus from the Adult Education program, is recognized for his work in distance education in "The Routledge Encyclopaedia of Educational Thinkers," a compilation of profiles of what Routledge considers to be history’s 128 most influential scholars in the field of education.

David Passmore, distinguished professor of workforce education and development, recently spoke with CBS Money Watch regarding the current employment market, overqualified employees and wage growth.

David Post, professor of educational theory and policy and comparative and international education, has been elected as the vice president/president-elect/president of the Comparative and International Education Society, which was founded in 1956 to foster cross-cultural understanding, scholarship, academic achievement and societal development through the international study of educational ideas, systems and practices. The society's members include nearly 2,500 academics, practitioners and students from around the world. Post has been active in the society, including serving as editor of its Comparative Education Review from 2003 to 2013.
