Penn State Extension offers workshop for sheep producers

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Sheep producers looking for information on how and when to make culling decisions to make their sheep operations more profitable can take advantage of a workshop offered by Penn State Extension and the Berks County Sheep and Wool Growers Association.

The workshop will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, at the Berks County Ag Center in Leesport.

Melanie Barkley, Penn State Extension educator, will discuss strategies for culling poor-performing sheep.

"There are a number of tools available to producers to help them make better-informed decisions. The goal is to keep the best genetics in your flock in order to improve production and ultimately profitability," she said.

Barkley will discuss these tools, as well as how to set goals for production and how to develop culling strategies.
