Theatre Department presents 'Godspell' April 5 to 8

READING, Pa. — The Penn State Berks Theatre Department will present "Godspell, The Musical," composed by Stephen Schwartz, libretto written by John-Michael Tebelak, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, through Saturday, April 8, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for Penn State students, staff and faculty, and free for area high school students.

"Godspell" is presented as a series of parables from the Bible, mostly based on the Gospel of Matthew. The production began as a college project performed by students at Carnegie Mellon University and then moved to La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in Greenwich Village. It was then re-scored for an off-Broadway production which became a long-running success.

Maria Mogford, instructor in theater, will direct the production. Berks Theater students Mya Elaine Anderson, Ryan Bristol, Charles Carr, Keith Flowers, Matthew Fry, Thomas Heiler, Daniel Jankauskas, Kayla Kasmari and Shelby Kramer will perform as actors. In addition, Hanna Mogford will also perform in the production.

The Penn State Berks Bachelor of Arts in Theater provides students with a solid foundation to become successful theater artists and effective theater educators. The degree program also trains students in the skills to become effective communicators and professional program managers.
