W.O.R.D.S. second annual State Slam to be held March 15

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA—Penn State Writers Organized to Represent Diverse Stories (W.O.R.D.S.)’s 2nd annual State Slam features Penn State’s very own national poetry slam team on March 15. The slam is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the HUB-Robeson Center’s Freeman auditorium.

The team will debut material that they will be competing with for the College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI) in Chicago, Illinois.

CUPSI is an annual slam poetry tournament, hosted by the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), where dozens of college teams compete for one ultimate spot. Penn State is an active member of ACUI; however, last year was their first time competing at CUPSI.

Penn State’s 2017 CUPSI team is comprised of poets David Gaines, Abby Kennedy, Davon Clark, Rabiyatu Jalloh, and Coach Gabriel Green. At the State Slam they will be joined by special Guests Siaara Freeman, from Cleveland, Ohio, a prominent Slam Poet. She will be hosting the State Slam as well as being the Honorary MC.
