Coalition of Concerned Faculty to host discussion

The Coalition of Concerned Faculty of Penn State will present "Teaching in Times of Political Divide: A Teach-In & Discussion" from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 23, in Paterno Library's Foster Auditorium. Faculty panelists are Jen Cody, Kizzy Richards, Jonte Taylor, Liliana Garces, David Gamson and Donnan Stoicovy. The panel is moderated by Jeanine Staples.

FastStart seeks faculty mentors

FastStart, a mentoring program for first-year, underrepresented Penn State students, is seeking faculty members to serve as mentors. The program is intended to help students become aware of available campus resources and learn how to be successful at Penn State. Members sought for University Staff Advisory Council

The Penn State University Staff Advisory Council (USAC) is seeking membership applications for the 2017-18 academic year. Formed in January 1995, USAC exists for the purpose of suggestion, review and advice on issues that impact or are impacted by staff. Issues such as policy and practice, continuous quality improvement, diversity, customer service and other similar matters are addressed. The council acts in an advisory capacity to the central administration through the Vice President for Human Resources. Monthly council meetings typically occur during normal University hours, last approximately two hours, and are considered University business. Garban Grant-In-Aid available for children of Penn State employees

Applications are now being accepted for the 2017-18 Steve A. Garban Grant-In-Aid. Children of full-time Penn State or Penn College technical service or staff employees are eligible to apply. Eligible students must be offered admission as first-year, full-time students at any Penn State campus or at the Pennsylvania College of Technology; must have demonstrated leadership and humanitarian qualities through extracurricular activities; and must have achieved or show promise of achieving academic success. Research workshop scheduled for March 17

Faculty and student researchers will have the opportunity to learn about three database resources that can help support their research. Participants will learn about SciVal, SciVal Funding and Navigate Education in PA. The workshop will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, March 17, in Krause Innovation Studio. Canvas Day scheduled for March 17

The spring 2017 semester will be last semester faculty can use ANGEL for their courses. All courses must be transitioned to Canvas by June 2017. To aid in this transition, the Canvas Transition Team will host "Canvas Day" on March 17 at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. Four types of sessions will be offered — expo, hands-on training, demo and consultations — so that participants can find what best suit their needs. Open access to research articles available

The University of Chicago Press is offering free access to a collection of recently published articles from more than 10 education journals, including the American Journal of Education. Articles were selected for scholars attending the 2017 meetings of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and can be viewed by visiting http://bit.ly/2lvGYkJ.
