Health care courses scheduled in Williamsport, Wellsboro

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Several health care-related courses are scheduled for the coming months at Pennsylvania College of Technology and its Wellsboro campus.

The classes are:

Phlebotomy for the Healthcare Professional (HSC 519)

Tuesdays and Thursdays (April 4 to May 11) 6 to 9 p.m.

Wellsboro High School Administration Building


The program will provide instruction in how to collect blood samples using venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures. Instruction will include how to properly and safely use needles, lancets and butterflies to collect the samples, as well as the different types of collection tubes to use for the appropriate tests. Basic specimen preparation, patient interactions and confidentiality issues are also addressed.

The course objective is to prepare students to seek employment as entry-level phlebotomists. Those successfully completing the course will be issued a certificate and will be eligible to sit for a certification exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association.

This program is a three-day, concentrated, “smart-study” approach to give participants the information they need to pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam or Physician Assistant National Recertifying Exam.

APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program (HSC815)

Saturday and Sunday (April 22-23), 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Penn College’s Breuder Advanced Technology and Health Sciences Center (Room 215)

This voluntary program is designed for people interested in or involved with clinical education – including clinical instructors, center coordinators of clinical education, academic coordinators/directors of clinical education, and academic faculty – and is recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association as a Clinical Instructor Education and Credentialing Program. The program is divided into two distinct parts: CI Education Program via an interactive didactic course format that is appropriate to all clinical educators; and Assessment Center (credentialing) of curricular outcomes through six simulated situations is available to physical therapist and physical therapist assistants only.

To register, participants should:

  • Electronically complete a dossier form (available at www.apta.org, as handwritten forms are no longer accepted)
  • Attach a copy of their professional license.
  • If applicable, attach a copy of their APTA membership card.
  • Enclose their $425 payment.
