Winter storm expected to bring heavy snowfall to central Pennsylvania

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The National Weather Service in State College has issued a winter storm warning for Centre County and throughout central Pennsylvania beginning at 8 p.m. Monday, March 13, through 10 p.m. Tuesday, March 14. The heaviest snowfall is expected to occur between midnight Monday and mid-morning on Tuesday. Predicted snowfall totals of 9 to 15 inches could create the potential for hazardous travel conditions from late Monday night through Tuesday afternoon.

University Police and Public Safety, Penn State Emergency Management and the Office of Physical Plant are closely monitoring the storm as it develops and will be assessing travel conditions on campus throughout the storm. Faculty, staff and students can stay informed about the status of classes and activities at University Park by using Penn State's PSUAlert system, Facebook page, the Penn State News website, and WPSU TV and radio. WPSU can be heard at 91.5 FM in State College, Bellefonte, Lock Haven and surrounding areas, and 90.1 FM in northern Pennsylvania counties. Other local television and radio stations also will inform the public of any weather-related delays or cancellations.

All employees and students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own safety. Faculty, staff and students should use their own best judgment when considering traveling to campus during times of inclement weather.
