UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Commission for Women (CFW) will host Pennsylvania Commission for Women chair Randi Blackman Teplitz from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, in 404 Old Main at University Park, and also through remote connection. The Penn State community is invited to attend.
At the April 19 meeting, Teplitz will discuss the mission and initiatives of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women and the current status of women in Pennsylvania. In addition, she will discuss current public policy issues related to economics, health, and safety and the impact of these policies on women.
Currently a professor in the Legal Studies Division at Central Penn College in Summerdale, Teplitz began her career representing victims of domestic violence in protection from abuse, custody, divorce, and economic support cases, and she is the founding director of the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg’s Domestic Violence Legal Center.
While she was proud of her work as a lawyer, Teplitz sought to expand her impact by training the next generation of public interest lawyers, which led her to move into teaching paralegal, pre-law, and law students. In October 2015, Teplitz was appointed by Gov. Tom Wolf to lead the Pennsylvania Commission for Women, an agency that advises the governor on issues impacting women and girls in Pennsylvania.
Teplitz is a graduate of Temple University and the Widener University School of Law. She was named one of the 50 Top Lawyers in Pennsylvania “On the Fast Track” by the Pennsylvania Law Weekly and the Legal Intelligencer, and received a “Woman of Distinction” Award from the Soroptomist Club International. She was nominated for Central Penn College’s Todd A. Milano Faculty Excellence Award in May 2008 and May 2013.
