Penn State Rec Fest to highlight opportunities for people with disabilities

HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and the Global Abilities Foundation will host the inaugural Penn State Rec Fest on April 1 at Penn State Harrisburg for people of all ages with — or without — a disability.

Penn State Rec Fest will feature demonstrations of adaptive sports, recreation and exercise, hands-on demonstrations, community resources and an opportunity to participate in a research study. Demos will include wheelchair rugby, basketball and baseball, scuba diving, kayaking, tai chi, service dogs, sled hockey, track chair, adaptive hunting equipment, and adaptive snow and water ski equipment.

Among those on-hand will be staff from the Medical Center’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Rec Fest will be held in conjunction with a 2 day spinal cord injury symposium titled “Current Concepts in Spinal Cord Injury Management,” which will take place March 30 and 31 at the Hershey Country Club.
