The Penn State School of Visual Arts (SoVA) is pleased to announce a visit by artist Dahn Hiuni as part of its John M. Anderson Endowed Lecture Series. Hiuni is a New York-based Israeli-American multidisciplinary artist and activist. His creative work spans visual art, performance art, theatre and graphic design. Hiuni will give a lecture titled “Do It All! In Favor of the Generalist in a Specialist’s Art World” from 3 to 4 p.m. on March 14 in the Palmer Museum of Art's Palmer Lipcon Auditorium.

Hiuni has been a life-long champion of gay rights, as well as an AIDS activist. In recent years, in response to a worldwide resurgence of anti-Semitism and delegitimization campaigns against his native country, Hiuni has become an ardent pro-Israel activist. He uses his unique combination of artistic, theatrical, and activist skills to combat bias and discrimination and promote social justice for all. Hiuni’s work has been presented at New York venues such as the Fringe Festival/Soho Playhouse, P.S. 122, Franklin Furnace, Mixed Greens, Artists Space, Metro Pictures, Cooper Union and Thread Waxing Space. Other exhibition and performance venues include the Cleveland Performance Art Festival, the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Lancaster Museum of Art.

His 1999 pioneering online performance, "Twentieth Century Art," is part of the permanent collection at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Hiuni's work has appeared in the New York Times, the Huffington Post, and Playbill. He is the recipient of an Excellence in Playwriting Award from the New York International Fringe Festival, an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Major Artist Grant, and an Artist of Extraordinary Ability Green Card from the U.S. government.

Hiuni has taught at Pratt Institute, FIT, Hofstra, Bucknell, State University of New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the National Theatre School of Canada. He holds a master's of fine artt in studio art and an interdisciplinary doctorate in art education/art history/performance studies, both from Penn State. He is adjunct professor of art at New York's School of Visual Arts, Empire State College and Hudson County Community College.

Hiuni's lecture is part of the University's All In initiative. All in at Penn State: A Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion is an ongoing University-wide initiative that brings students, faculty and staff together to show their commitment to cultivating a diverse and inclusive environment.
