March photo contest: Service selfies

The March photo contest is looking for photos of Penn Staters making a difference, such as these students and staff who headed to Ambler, Pennsylvania, to work on projects with the Interfaith Housing Alliance. Credit: Pam Brobst / Penn StateCreative Commons

This month, Penn State Today is holding a photo contest looking for images of Penn Staters lending a helping hand. The contest is open to students, faculty and staff at all Penn State locations. The winning photo and the best runners-up — as selected by the Penn State Today team — will be featured in a future edition of Penn State Today and on Penn State’s social media platforms.

Submission guidelines are available here. Photographers of all skill levels are invited to participate. No need for a fancy camera — the cell phone in your pocket will do the job. Be sure to read our submission guidelines, and happy photographing!

MARCH 2017: Submit your favorite service selfie

Send us your best photograph illustrating how you or someone is helping others. These could be photos of a spring break service trip; images of students, faculty or staff participating in local events like the United Way's Day of Caring; or just helping out a neighbor, friend or colleague.

Submission deadline: 5 p.m. Friday, March 24.

-- Send your photo by email to: news@psu.edu. Use the subject line “photo contest.”

-- Limit submissions to one photo per person per month.

-- Include a brief caption describing the contents of the photo (who, what, when and where). Our team may get back to you if more details are needed.

-- Include your name.

-- If you’re a student, include your home campus, major and class standing (freshman, sophomore, etc.), and your hometown.

-- If you’re a member of the faculty or staff, include your home campus and your department/unit.

-- Using built-in filters and color adjustments is acceptable, but altering photos by adding or removing objects/elements is prohibited.

Submit photos only if they were taken by you. By submitting an image, you attest to your ownership of the image. You also agree that Penn State has the right and license to redistribute the image, royalty free, on its various communications platforms, including but not limited to Penn State Today, Penn State News and various official social media platforms.
