— Susannah Boyle, a doctoral student studying special education, has been awarded a College of Education Research Initiation Grant to investigate the effects of “Transition to Literacy” software on the sight-word recognition skills of young children with developmental disabilities.

Erica Frankenberg, associate professor of educational leadership and demography, spoke with The Daily Collegian about the confirmation of Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.

— Distinguished Professor of Education Roger L. Geiger recently was quoted in an Opposing Views articles regarding the history of tuition-free college programs.

— As part of its 50th anniversary, The Journal of Special Education is republishing “A Propensity Score Matching Analysis of the Effects of Special Education Services," a research study led by Paul Morgan, professor of education policy studies.

— Anne Odele, a graduate student in the Department of Learning and Performance Systems, has received a College of Education Research Initiation Grant to conduct follow-up research with former adult literacy participants in rural Uganda. Her research will examine how participants use literacy in their everyday lives and will highlight the experiences of adult learners.

Kyle Peck, professor of adult education and research fellow, recently spoke with Educause Review about the future of education and professional credentials.

Jeanine Staples, associate professor of literacy and language, African-American Studies, and women’s, gender and sexuality studies, gave a presentation, "You Need Another Lover: How White Supremacist Patriarchal Ideologies Prompt The Generation Of Toxic Lover Identities In Black Women And How Those Identities Are Killing Us," at Brown University on Feb. 2. The presentation was sponsored by the Brown University Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America.
