UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State, with its Global Engagement Network partner, the University of Zagreb in Croatia, is participating for the first time in the European Union’s ERASMUS+ exchange program for short-term faculty travel. The College of Liberal Arts and Global Programs are co-sponsoring the program, which is open to all Penn State faculty.
Travel and living expenses will be provided for three Penn State faculty visits to the University of Zagreb for up to a week during the 2016-17 academic year, to explore new faculty-to-faculty collaborations or to develop existing collaborations.
Proposals to employ the exchange funding are welcomed, to strengthen scholarship, research and teaching connections between the two universities. However, emphasis is on preparing a guest lecture for the University of Zagreb students in the following areas: education; social and behavioral sciences; political sciences and civics; journalism and information; natural sciences; mathematics and statistics; agriculture; forestry; fisheries and veterinary; health and welfare; sport; and law. This list will be extended next year.
ERASMUS+ will also be funding three visits of Zagreb faculty to Penn State during the same time period. Exchanges are funded by ERAMUS+ for a maximum of seven days, but stays can be extended with additional Penn State faculty funding.
The grant covers travel expenses and per diem and will be paid by the University of Zagreb upon arrival, with a maximum of five days of per diem (max. 100 EUR per day) and travel expenses (max. 820 EUR). Detailed information can be found at the Erasmus+ Programme Guide.

ERASMUS+ (European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) is the European Union’s main exchange program for scholarship, education, training, youth and sport. It is the major instrument for funding long- and short-term exchange of students, faculty and administrators, between the EU and other countries, including, most recently, the United States.
