Students encouraged to apply for scholarships

The College of Education’s scholarship committee is accepting applications for College-specific scholarships available for the 2017-18 academic year. The college has academic awards within all fields of study, and undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to be recognized for their achievements and to alleviate tuition bills, loans and other expenses. Nominations for college awards now open

The College of Education is accepting nominations for the 2016-17 Faculty, Staff and Student Awards. The awards honor members of the college community who have made significant contributions to their field of study, the college and the University. DCEC to host second annual bullying workshop

The college’s Diversity and Community Enhancement Committee (DCEC) will hold “Bullying Among Diverse Populations: A justice education workshop” on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Pasquerilla Spiritual Center. The full-day workshop will start at 9 a.m. and will introduce participants to the prevalence and impact of bullying and bias-based bullying, and methods used to address these behaviors. ‘The Conversation’ editors to share communication tools with faculty researchers

Penn State will host two editors from the academic media website The Conversation from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, in Foster Auditorium. Science and technology editor Maggie Villiger and editorial liaison Ari Fertig will talk about why it’s important to bring academics into popular media, what’s in it for you as an academic, pitching your research to media, finding your “news peg,” and more. To ensure space accommodations, faculty who are interested in attending the presentation are asked to RSVP online. Innovative technology proposals due Feb. 15

The Office of Grants and Contracts is accepting proposals for the college’s Innovative Uses of Technology for Education grants. These grants, available to faculty and staff who work directly with students, provide funding for those interested in developing new ideas for uses of technology for students and amounts range from $1,000 to $15,000. Education night with Penn State hockey scheduled for March 3

Faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the College of Education may purchase discounted tickets to the Penn State vs. Wisconsin men’s hockey game scheduled for 7 p.m. March 3 at Pegula Ice Arena. Edcamp Happy Valley to host free training sessions

The inaugural Edcamp Happy Valley will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, at Mount Nittany Elementary School. Edcamp is a free professional development opportunity where participants choose session topics the day of the event and engage in collaborative discussion with other educators. The event is presentation- and vendor-free, and will include a complimentary continental breakfast and lunch. Undergraduate and graduate students who plan to teach in K-12 schools are encouraged to attend. Summer research grants available for undergraduate students

The Office of Undergraduate Education is once again offering Erickson Discovery Grants to support undergraduate student engagement in original research, scholarship and creative work under the direct supervision of a faculty member. Approximately 60 grants will be awarded, each in the amount of $3,500, and will be available for summer 2017. Interested students must apply by Feb. 2. Travel grant applications due Feb. 15

Faculty and graduate students involved with international research may be eligible to receive up to $3,000 in travel grants through Global Programs. The Global Programs Travel Grant Initiative awards grants in three categories — Faculty Travel Grants; Graduate Student Travel Grants; and Transformational Travel Grants. The grant application is due Feb. 15 and can be accessed by visiting http://bit.ly/2j8iVrA.

Applicants sought for student trustee, selection committee

Applications are being accepted for the position of student trustee on the Penn State Board of Trustees. Full-time undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to serve as a student trustee. The deadline to apply is Feb. 17. Applications also are being taken for the student trustee selection committee. Interested students must apply by Feb. 10.
