UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. —The National Weather Service in State College has issued a freezing rain advisory for portions of central Pennsylvania beginning at midnight Monday (Jan. 16) through 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17. Freezing rain overnight could produce ice accumulations of a light glaze to a few hundredths of an inch, creating the potential for hazardous travel conditions during the early morning hours on Tuesday.

Penn State will have crews on the ground treating campus roads, parking lots and sidewalks, and monitoring campus travel conditions, beginning at 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Faculty, staff and students can stay informed about the status of classes and activities at University Park by using Penn State's PSUAlert system, Facebook page, the Penn State News website, and WPSU-TV and radio. WPSU can be heard at 91.5 FM in State College, Bellefonte, Lock Haven and surrounding areas, and 90.1 FM in northern Pennsylvania counties. Other local television and radio stations also will inform the public of any weather-related delays or cancellations.

All employees and students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own safety. Faculty, staff and students should use their own best judgment when considering traveling to campus during times of inclement weather. Faculty and staff also should review Handling Weather Day Absences (Human Resources Guideline 10) at http://guru.psu.edu/policies/OHR/hrg10.html for specific information on how time missed for weather situations is handled.
