Flutist Abdur-Razzaq to present 'Jazz and the Civil Rights' at Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. — Penn State Mont Alto will host Galen Abdur-Razzaq for a special Martin Luther King Jr. Day event from 12:10 to 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the Wiestling Student Center. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

During his program titled “Jazz and the Civil Rights,” Abdur-Razzaq will discuss and perform jazz pieces by known jazz artists to provide an understanding and appreciation of jazz, its historical significance, and its role in the peaceful existence of mankind.

Abdur-Razzaq’s intellectually stimulating lectures and powerful jazz performances make him one of the most popular artists on university and college campuses in the country.

A flutist from Montclair, New Jersey, he has performed both domestically and internationally for more than 30 years. A former student of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and a graduate of Rutgers University, he holds a master’s degree in fine arts and education. He is an arranger, composer, director, educator and writer.
