'Sex Discussed Here!' coming to Penn State Jan. 17

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Laugh and learn about the "big O!" "Sex Discussed Here!" will stop at Penn State at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17, in Freeman Auditorium in the HUB-Robeson Center with its Female Orgasm program, sponsored by the Center for Women Students, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs. The event is free and open to the public.

Orgasm aficionados and beginners of all genders are welcome to come learn about everything from multiple orgasms to that mysterious G-spot. Whether you want to learn how to have your first orgasm, how to have better ones, or how to help your partner, facilitators cover it all with lots of humor, plenty of honesty, and an underlying message of sexual health and women's empowerment. People of all genders are welcome.

“Orgasms are all about pleasure, exactly the aspect of sexuality that's not discussed in most formal sex education,” said Rachel Dart, one of the program’s trained facilitators. “High school classes often teach about anatomy, reproduction, and disease, but they rarely address pleasure. That's pretty sad, given that pleasure is a core part of sex for most people.”

During the program, trained facilitators from "Sex Discussed Here!" will be educating about women's sexuality and pleasure. This is a topic of interest to many people of all genders, but it is rarely addressed in an educational lecture setting. In addition to providing information that people may find useful for their own lives, facilitators also will be modeling inclusive, accessible ways of teaching and talking about sexuality.

The Female Orgasm program includes:

  • An emphasis on individuals making sexual decisions that are right for them, including whether to use the information now or when married or in a serious relationship
  • Extremely inclusive information and language around LGBTQ issues and gender identity
  • Analysis of the messages people receive about their bodies and sexuality from media, families and elsewhere
  • Body image, and the links between "befriending your body" and experiencing physical pleasure
  • The value of learning how to say "no" to sex — and the problems college students sometimes encounter when they realize that's all they ever learned
  • Anatomy
  • Tips for partners about being patient and respectful
  • The problems with pressure to have an orgasm, to orgasm faster, to have multiple orgasms, to orgasm with a partner, to fake or not fake orgasms
  • Answers to the most common questions about orgasm

“Knowledge is key and being knowledgeable about sex is a good thing,” said Jennifer Pencek, programming coordinator for the Center for Women Students. “Being well-informed helps people make responsible decisions whenever the time is right for them.”

"I love female orgasm" t-shirts and a variety of feminist and LGBTQA buttons will be for sale at the event, along with copies of the book "I Love Female Orgasm: An Extraordinary Orgasm Guide." Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from t-shirt sales support Breast Cancer Action.
