Bramley, Meijer, Putsch named NFHCA First-Team All-Region

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State field hockey's Aurelia Meijer, Moira Putsch and Gini Bramley were named to the 2016 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Mideast First-Team All-Region team Tuesday afternoon as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

The All-Region lists included the Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Northeast, South and West. The All-Region squads consisted of 66 seniors or graduate students, 46 juniors, 33 sophomores and 15 freshmen.

Meijer and Bramley were huge contributors for Penn State this past season, helping the Nittany Lions advance to the Big Ten Tournament Championship game and capturing a league leading seventh-Big Ten tournament title.

Sophomore Aurelia Meijer finished the 2016 season tied as the Nittany Lions third leading scorer netting 11 goals, 12 assist, totaling 34 points on the season. Meijer also tied for a team lead in game-winning goals recording four over the season.

Meijer, the first international field hockey in Penn State history, wrapped up her sophomore campaign in Happy Valley by earning her second-career All-Region Honor following a stellar freshman season in the Blue & White.

Gini Bramley started in every game in 2016 for Penn State becoming a main stay for Hall-of-Fame head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss. Bramley scored 13 goals adding three assist to total 29 points on the season.

Bramley had three games with at least two goals, while Meijer recorded her second-career hat trick against Rutgers in a 4-1 come from behind victory on the road.

Moira Putsch started all 20 games for Penn State and finished the season as the leading scorer for the Nittany Lions pouring in a career high 15 goals, 20 assist for a team high 50 points. Putsch finished the season as the NCAA leader in assist averaging 1.00 assist per game. The media, Pa. native also recorded three game winning shots throughout the season.

Both Bramley and Meijer set career highs in goals as they helped head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss capture her 500th-career victory in a conference tournament clinching game against Maryland on Nov. 6 in College Park, Maryland.

Earning second-team honors for the Nittany Lions were Brooke Birosik, Skyler Fretz and Kirsten Gochnauer. These three combined for 13 goals, 16 assist and 42 points over the 2016 season. 

Fretz and Birosik earned NFHCA honors in 2015 making this the second of their career.

The Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Regional Players of the Year will be announced on Thursday, with the All-America squad coming out on Dec. 7 and the National Player of the Year on Dec. 14.
