Concert Choir, State College Area High School Master Singers to perform Nov. 13

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Concert Choir will be joined by the State College Area High School Master Singers for a performance at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, in the Worship Hall of the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center. The program features choral music designed for acoustically significant spaces. The Concert Choir is conducted by Christopher Kiver. The conductor of the State College Area High School Master Singers is Erik Clayton.

Tickets are $4.99 general admission and $2 for students. No advance ticket purchase is available. Ticket sales begin 45 minutes prior to the concert in the lobby and are cash only.

This concert will also be available via livestream video on the Penn State School of Music website.

The Penn State Concert Choir has undertaken numerous overseas tours to countries including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain, and Australia. Within the United States, the Concert Choir has performed extensively within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, New England, Louisiana, and the Southwest, and at premier venues including Heinz Hall (Pittsburgh), the Kimmel Center (Philadelphia), and the Music Center at Strathmore (Maryland). In June 2015, members of the Concert Choir performed with the Rolling Stones at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. The Concert Choir has performed at conferences of the American Choral Directors Association and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. Performing music from the Renaissance through to the present in its regularly scheduled campus concerts, recent performances of major choral works have included Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in C Minor (“Resurrection”), Ein deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D Minor ("Choral"), the Verdi Requiem, Leonard Bernstein's Mass, the Poulenc Gloria, and Mozart's Mass in C Minor, K. 427 ("Grand Mass"). Enrollment in the Concert Choir is by audition.

State College Area High School Master Singers formed in fall 1996.The ensemble features auditioned singers in grades 10, 11 and 12. The Master Singers have distinguished themselves in earning superior ratings at adjudicated festivals in New York City, Toronto, Virginia Beach, Ocean City, Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Chicago. They were invited to participate in a masterclass with the famed a cappella ensemble, Chanticleer, in fall 1997. Other invited performances include the 2002 (Pittsburgh) and 2006 (New York City) American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division conferences, the 2004 (Erie) and 2009 (Valley Forge) conferences of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, the 2011 MENC Eastern Division Conference (Baltimore), the Heinz Chapel Chamber Choir Invitational, and the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. The choir made its Carnegie Hall debut in March 2008. They performed works of Aaron Copland with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Orchestra and joined forces with Metropolitan Opera Audition winners and the State College Choral Society and Orchestra in spring 2001. Concert Tours have taken the Master Singers to Europe in 1999, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012 and 2015.
