Penn State Abington athletes, coaches rack up honors

ABINGTON, Pa. — Penn State Abington student-athletes and coaches earned all-conference, coach of the year, and athlete of the week awards as fall sports wrap up.

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) last week honored Penn State Abington student-athletes and coaches with the following honors: 

Coaches of the Year: Men's soccer: David Castellanos; men's cross country: Jose Rodriguez

Golfer of the Week: Senior Mike Lam 

Men's soccer all-conference:

  • First team: Senior forward Richard Domico and junior midfielder Andrew Costa
  • Second team: Sophomore forward Hernando Villamil, freshman midfielder Chris Schlegal, sophomore goalkeeper Jose Arroyo  
  • Third team: Junior defender Thomas Vessels 

Women's soccer all-conference:

  • Second team: Junior forward Michelle Latronica, junior defender Greta Sheridan, and sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Friend
  • Third team: Sophomore defender Jessica Domansky

Volleyball all-conference: Senior Sam Amaro named first team for the third consecutive year.

Volleyball defensive player of the week: Isabel Hoch (third time this season)

The NCAA recognized Abington this week with its Division III Diversity Spotlight Initiative, which includes a $500 award toward related programming. The NCAA singled out the college’s Diversity Leadership Retreat (DLR) for its impact on student athletes and the campus community.
