Program to educate parents about dangers of heroin

Penn State Children’s Hospital and the Byrnes Health Education Center are teaming up for a program to educate parents about the dangers of heroin. The two-part program will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Central Dauphin Middle School on Locust Lane in Harrisburg. The “adults only” program is titled “Drugs 102: Heroin – The Wakeup Call.”

The first portion is designed to inform parents about the heroin epidemic across central Pennsylvania and the U.S. as a whole. Participants will learn about what heroin does to the body and how prescription drug abuse can lead to heroin use. Local statistics and resources will also be provided along with current heroin trends and information on the “Good Samaritan Law.”

The second part will feature Detective Sgt. Todd Johnson from the Criminal Investigation Division of Dauphin County’s District Attorney Office. He will discuss the current drug paraphernalia and drug trends on the street and how to recognize them.

There will be a question-and-answer session following each program.

Those interested in attending can sign up here. This event is made possible by funding from the Josiah & Bessie Kline Foundation.
