— Lauren Cozad, a second-year doctoral student studying special education, recently presented her research on the “Effects of Digital-Based Math Fluency Interventions on Struggling Learners” at the annual Council for Learning Disabilities conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Allison Flemming, assistant professor of rehabilitation and human services, served as a panelist for “Disability in the Workplace: An Employment Perspective" on Oct. 3 at Penn State. Fleming joined three other panelists to discuss employments rights of individuals with disabilities as part of Penn State’s All In initiative.

Erica Frankenberg, professor of education and demography and co-director of the Center for Education and Civil Rights, served as a moderator for the panel discussion “Defining Diversity and Disadvantage” at The National Coalition on School Diversity conference held Oct. 18 in Washington, D.C.

Kathleen Hill, associate director of the Center for Sciences and the Schools (CSATS), and Amanda Smith, STEM outreach and engagement liaison for CSATS, recently presented “PIPELINE in STEM” at the Fayette Business Education Partnership at Penn State Fayette.

Elizabeth Hughes, assistant professor of special education, has been awarded a Research Initiation Grant to explore the topic of “Assessing Middle School Mathematics Vocabulary.”

Gerald LeTendre, professor of education, recently authored “Want great teachers? There’s no one-size-fits-all solution,” for The Conversation; the article was later published in Salon.

— Stephanie Morano, a senior doctoral student in the special education program, and Jiwon Hwang (’16, Ph.D., special education) presented “The Rational Number Sense of Middle School Students with LD” at the annual Council for Learning Disabilities conference on Oct. 16 in San Antonio, Texas. Morano also recently was awarded the Dissertation Research Initiation Grant, which will support her research examining the effectiveness of an intervention combining CRA-I with number line representations for fourth-grade students.

— Distinguished Professor of Education David Passmore, along with colleague Rose Baker, presented “Immigration Anguish” on Oct. 14 at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Penn State. Slides from the presentation are available at http://bit.ly/2erAIHM.

— Education Policy Studies graduate students Andrew Pendola and Ruxandra Apostolescu have been selected as policy associates for the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA).

— Multiple faculty and graduate students from the college’s learning, design and technology program will present research at the annual Association for Educational Communication and Technology conference Oct. 18-21 in Las Vegas.
