October 24 – November 10, 2016

Reception: Friday, November 4, 5:00-9:00 PM, with artist’s talk at 6 PM

The Woskob Family Gallery is pleased to present Stephen Zimmerer’s new work exploring the Chinese megacity.

As an honors student in landscape architecture, Zimmerer is trained in data visualization, digital and analogue drawing, and the act of using plants and landform to reconfigure cities. Arguing that we no longer inhabit a world in which the dichotomy of urban and rural remains applicable, his prints, drawings, collages, and fabric works shed light on the ways in which the echoes of the metropolis can be heard in Central Pennsylvania. Themes including reconstruction, erasure, and anxiety form the basis for this body of work.

Zimmerer currently maintains a studio practice in Hong Kong while completing his thesis on deployable landscape interventions in the Pearl River Delta. His work has been exhibited at various locations, including the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture conference and expo, the Barcelona Architecture Center, and the Pittsburgh Zoo, among others.

The Woskob Family Gallery is a contemporary art space in downtown State College that brings a cohesive and carefully curated program of exhibitions and events to central Pennsylvania. Run by Penn State’s College of Arts and Architecture, the gallery serves as a laboratory for exploring how the arts can catalyze creative placemaking.

The Woskob Family Gallery is located at 146 South Allen Street, State College, PA 16801. Gallery hours are 9:00 am–4:00 pm, Monday through Friday and 10:00 am–2:00 pm on Saturdays.
